Steal a copy of Windows Vista or Office 2007 Ultimate

If you’re a student at a U.S. educational institution, you qualify for some pretty insane deals Office and Windows. Microsoft’s Ultimate Steal program allows students to order Office Ultimate 2007 for $59.95 (no, that’s not a typo) and Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Edition (regular or Product RED branded) for $65.

The licenses are perpetual, meaning you get to continue using the software even if you quit school. And I see nothing in the terms and conditions that prevents using this copy for commercial purposes.

You need to have a .edu e-mail address and you need to swear on a stack of college transcripts that you are currently enrolled in school with at least 0.5 credits. Full details here.

  1. We send a lot of our students there. We get great deals for Microsoft products through the University but not that good. You can also download Expression studio for free if you’re a student. The V2 of expression studio was a free upgrade for people that previously downloaded it.

    I have it good too in that I can buy Vista Ultimate for $80 and Office Enterprise 2007 for $65 as faculty. I think that they would have a lot more people upgrading if they sold for that price.

  2. I really like the MSDN Academic Program (for engineers like myself as well as math and computer science students). It offers free Vista Business, XP Pro, OneNote, Visio, and others. Pretty sweet 🙂

    And speaking of good deals, I’m really hoping for some offers for Windows 7 such as I got for Vista. I got a free copy of Vista business and Office 2007 for watching some MS webcasts, and a free copy of Vista Ultimate from being in the Windows Feedback Program. Can’t complain with free

  3. Another good thing to check out if your a student, and a programmer is Microsoft DreamSpark @ http://www.dreamspark.com . I just found it recently and it is awesome. You can download Visual Studio 2005/2008 Pro, SQL Server 2008 Developer, Windows Server 2003/2008 Standard, and Expression Studio. All are free. You do need to do academic verification, but it’s easy to do.

    The MSDN Academic Alliance stuff is good too, if your school has it and your a member of the right department.

  4. Depending on your University’s deal with Microsoft, you can also have Vista Business Upgrade for 10$ and Office Professional for 10$. Microsoft’s deals for students are unbeatable.

    Last year they gave away Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, Windows Server 2003, and Microsoft Expression.
