  2. So true, so true. How do you target business travelers without integrated Ethernet? Back when I was working for the man, WiFi was outlawed in both our facilities and many hotels only offer wired connections. Style over substance. Though neither of these laptops are bargain purchases. Going from 3lbs to 4lbs-5lbs will save you 50%, you’ll end up with a more powerful computer, and you still won’t need a chiropractor.

  5. About time someone had the guts to push back on Apple’s marketing and show some reality vs just hype. I hope they “air” it liberally. MSFT should have done similar long ago.

  7. I always found the Mac vs. PC ads funny, and this was a good response. It was funny and it definitely captured the feel of the Air ads. They would have made a better point by proving you could actually plug all that stuff into the Lenovo, but, that’s a nitpick. Good stuff.

  8. I thought the point of the ad was that the X300 came with all that stuff … no need to plug anything in. What am I missing?

    Hm. Since when is Apple a competitor to Lenovo? Are there any potential costumers who would buy a MBA instead of a Thinkpad? So what is this spot about? Easy: It shows, that Apple’s marketshare is growing and that Lenovo is afraid of it. It does not say “The Thinkpad X300 is better than the MBA”, but: “Shit, there’s a new kid on the block and we have to worry about it”.

    Even worse: You can put any other well equipped Subnotebook from any other company in the envelope – the whole point of this clip is, that the Lenovo Thinkpad has nothing of own value or character, it’s just another notebook. And they even have to borrow the advertisment 😉

    Btw – i can’t remember, that I’ve ever needed the DVD-Drive in my old Thinkpad while I was on the road. I even hardly use the one in my MacBook at home. And an USB-Hub? No, really not. All the years I’ve travelled with my notebooks – Compaq, Toshiba, Dell, IBM, Apple – I’ve never really needed all the stuff Lenovo is so proud of building it in.
