Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview is out

Microsoft just released a public beta of Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP SP2. It’s a preview of Beta 2, not Beta 2 itself.

If you’re comfortable with beta software, it’s worth the download. Even if you use another browser, this one’s worth trying out.

I’ll have a lot more to say about this build of IE7 (and its Windows Vista counterpart) later this week. Stay tuned.

  1. I’ve been beta testing this one for a while and have installed and uninstalled it with no problems on four different machines. That’s no guarantee that your experience will be the same, but I’d say you’re in pretty good shape.

  2. I have to say, I think they did a realy good job.

I think I’d probably use it except for the fact that I’m just more comfortable in Firefox and that there are several extensions that I use very regularly (like mouse gestures).

  3. I am installing right now in Virtual PC on XP Home and its stuck 50%, 384 MBs of RAM assigned to the virtual machine. I don’t know whats happening, quit the install and started over already. It truly is buggy.

  4. Andre, I don’t think you can draw the sweeping conclusions you did from the data you describe. I’ve found Virtual PC to be so slow as to be virtually (hah!) unusable for many serious tasks. IE7 installs flawlessly on my test systems in VMWare, meanwhile.

  6. It’s certainly much improved over previous versions of IE, and I like how easy it is to open a new tab. I’m still going to use Firefox though =)

I can’t figure out what that default font being used for Beta 2 is. Does anyone know? I really like it.
