Am I the only one surprised to see MSN Search blog mentioning a add-on for Firefox? Am I the only one surprised by this statement on the MSN Search blog:
some of our customers prefer using Firefox and we respect that choice.
I’m certainly not surprised. In Windows Networking and Security Inside Out, which is at the printer’s now, Carl and I spent a lot of time talking about Firefox. Whenever possible, we included instructions for accomplishing security-related tasks in both IE and Firefox. And we didn’t get any pushback from the publisher, Microsoft Press.
Ed, it definitely makes sense. Some see Microsoft as a monolithic enterprise with a singular vision, but each business unit has their own P&L to maintain. MSN isn’t going to shoot themselves in the foot over something like that.
Isn’t data from the MSN search engine key to the targeted ads strategy as well? Since it doesn’t appear they will leech Claria data, they’ll have to collect it some way. Missing all the Firefox users would make their ad service a lot less effective.
Now if Office 12 was written in C#, THAT would be a story.
Speaking of “Windows Networking and Security Inside Out”, should I go ahead and order my copy, or are you going to be doing another signed copies deal anytime soon? 🙂
Amazon gets copies before I do. Realistically, it’ll be November before I get mine. I may do signed book plates for anyone who preorders.
