Over the years, I’ve written millions of words on Windows, Office, and other topics. A few years ago, I had regular columns in print (PC Computing, which became Smart Business before it collapsed and died under the crushing weight of way too many clueless Ziff-Davis Vice Presidents) and on the Web. Today, virtually all of my work is in books. (My latest effort is Faster Smarter Windows XP, and Windows XP Inside Out has been a best-seller since it was released in late 2001.)

This site represents a way for me to do some of the things I used to do, covering news, providing information, and sharing tips and tricks without having to go through a lengthy production process. I hope you like it. If you have questions or comments, click the Comments button and share your thoughts.

    Hey, Ed,

I like your site!! Regarding your comment about pointing out errors… trust me, your public will tell you (and tell you, and tell you).

Is there some milestone of Windows proficiency that you feel would differentiate me from one who could best be served by your “XP Inside/Out” vs. “Faster Smarter Windows XP?”

  • Ed Bott says:

Thanks for the kind words, Susan! The quick answer is that Faster Smarter Windows XP is for anyone who wants a thorough introduction to Windows XP. Windows XP Inside Out is about four times as long and is packed with detailed technical information, making it appropriate for the experienced Windows user who really wants to dive into this operating system. I’ll post a more detailed answer on the site today.

    Hi Ed

Welcome back to the web! And again thanks for the advice you gave me “where you were before” and now knowing the full story let’s hope you all get somewhere with the action.

Hope the new venture is a great success. It’s bookmarked already and I’ll be a regular visitor

    Regards from sunny Australia.

This site is the best. I got attack by the stupid virus the 17 yr old produced and cost me major money. I had to resort to a in-home technician due to Best Buy having a 7 day waiting period. I got my computer back and was unable to open my windows until I found this site. I am definitely making a donation and spreading the word. You guys are awsome…..
