Heh. I'm just a couple of years behind you buddy and know exactly how you feel. As the father of a 21-year-old and a 13-going-on-14-year-old I get this every day! I'll buy you a celebratory (or consolatory) marguerita when we finally connect in Santa Fe. ;^)

You have at least one regular reader and fan (me) who was there in Central Park (NYC) when Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a rousing speech against the Vietnam War.

I wonder who can claim to be your most elderly reader?

And I personally attended a week of Watergate Hearings in the summer of ‘73. If I weren’t so darned young (44), I’d cut my losses and check out, buy a tent and become a hermit.

For those who weren’t there, Nixon was creepy nuts, but the guys in West Wing today are worse. Maybe you could argue Nixon did a few things toward the environment, which his party deeply resented. But when you look at the pure evil that came from Nixon and Kissinger, you tend to think as long as guys like that walk the earth, there is no god — they were proud toss out the Constitution, until they started going to jail one by one.

I was at a Tori Amos concert a few years back and something from Houses of the Holy came on the sound system before the show. Two girls were talking in front of us and one said to the other "That's Led Zeppelin - they're not oldies, they're classic rock!". Ouch.

Funny I was at the Watergate hearings too. I was in the very back of the room, wedged between two wooden pews. I could clearly see Sam Ervin's eyebrows, though. Jeb Magruder was on the stand.

Happy birthday Ed. You beat me to the Golden Years by about 2 months.
