I've known about this for a long time, but I'll be darned if I can remember HOW I learned it in the first place. Maybe by accident? Perhaps one of those third-party "Unleashing Windows for super-duper almighty power-users" books?

One thing I'm pretty certain is that it wasn't from any official MS documentation. I can remember when I was first learning UNIX, it was the same thing. You just had to pick up stuff, since no one actually documented anything. Heck, it was SUPPOSED to be that way, to keep the riffraff out, or something.

Is the Alt-Tab key documented?

The Alt+Tab key is documented in the Windows XP Help and Support center, under the topic heading, "Windows keyboard shortcuts overview." I think this one has been documented since Windows 3.1 days, in fact. (Although it has been a staple of the Windows tips collection genre for lo these many years.)

The horrible thing about my relationship with MS Windows is that you get so used to believing that so many simple things are unnecessarily hard (today’s peeve: those dropdown boxes for directory/drive searches that are too small, and only go down...
