I honestly don't know what world the Media Division lives in. It has nothing to do with customers, other than the the companies it forms partnerships with for hardware. They have no idea how to respond effectively to end-user issues, and must be the most ineffective user of MVPs in the entire company. Given the number of people who end up with the disastrous WMP v10 as part of the SP2 upgrade, Microsoft should take more responsibility for this trojan component.

Mike, I'm confused by your comment about "people who end up with the disastrous WMP v10 as part of the SP2 upgrade." WMP10 isn't in SP2 - it's a completely separate upgrade. Can you elaborate?

Many posts on the Windows Media Player newsgroup show that end-users are confused about the difference between essential upgrades and optional upgrades. When they go to get SP2 from Windows Update, they pick up WMP v10 as well. There's also a large cohort who think that v10 might actually address bugs in v9 (rather than compound them). An inordinate number of people find that they have hosed their system for audio playback or CD usage after "upgrading". Some are able to fix the problem by rolling back to v9 (a poorly documented procedure), but many find that the rollback procedure does not walk.
