Firefox update not so automatic

Dear Firefox developers:

When you need to publish a 12-step instruction sheet for the “Automatic Update” to version 1.0.1 (with one step further broken down into three additional steps to be used if the little red Check Now icon is missing), it’s not an automatic update.

I’m just sayin’…

    Amen.

  • Neil T. says:

You could cut several of those steps out, but yeah, you have a point. It could be a lot more, erm, automatic.

It does beg the question – why are there 12 steps for the automatic update, but only 9 for manual?

  • Ed … per chance did you try the single click update? :)

I did and it worked flawlessly with a simple restart of Firefox. No issues. No checklist. Nothing.

I think what Asa was doing was something people have dinged open source for not having … a complete list of steps for procedures.

I salute them for doing it.

  • Ed Bott says:

Patrick, I needed the instructions to *find* the single-click update. It worked fine, but it wasn’t “automatic.”

  • I see what you’re saying.

So what would you like to see?

The software update itself without letting you know?

Something like the automatic windows updates where it downloads the update and prompt you?

  • Noah (Oldtima) says:

Actually, that would be nice. Kinda. I get picky about bandwith hogging when it comes to my 56K but for users in the high-speed, broadband, and Wi-Fi age, what’s the problem?

It’ll be so fast (4.6 MB) you won’t even have to blink!
